Album Review: Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run (1975)

Sometimes you buy a best-selling or critically revered album thinking that it would be shit hot.  For most of the time, that is certainly the case.  However, there is the occasional exception.  Whilst an album may have received glowing appraisals from the music press and fans alike, it doesn't always sit well with me, and Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen is an example of this.  I am an immense fan of the Boss - Born in the USA is probably the best album I have ever heard, and his more contemporary recordings have ranged from good to sterling.  But Born to Run is certainly not my go-to album of his - I just can't find myself getting excited outside of a handful of tracks, such as the titular "Born to Run", "Thunder Road" or "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out."  To me, the album just comes across as flat and tepid, although there are some noteworthy sax solos to be found on the album, particularly on "Jungleland."  I would like to like this album, but it simply doesn't do anything for me.  I sure hope it does something for you.  If anybody needs me, I'll be jamming Born In the USA instead.  B
